About Lion Match Exports

The Lion Match Company (Pty) Ltd operates a dedicated Export Division to service markets outside South Africa. Favourable agreements see trade fl owing freely between South Africa and the neighbouring states of Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland (BLNS). These countries are therefore included as part
of the local South African operation. The Export Division trades further afi eld – into Africa, South America, Indian Ocean islands and other countries.

Our Business

With matches as its core product, The Lion Match Company (Pty) Ltd has commanded market share and traded across borders virtually since production began. However, changes in the global economy, currency fluctuations, complex regulations and evolving consumer preferences, have brought new focus to export
opportunities.

Africa’s “demographic dividend” has attracted attention from multinationals as well as direct importers, making each country and indeed regions within each country, highly competitive and strategy-specific. The Lion Match Company (Pty) Ltd is well-positioned to take advantage of trade agreements and favourable exchange rates in the SADC region where it supplies Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Export Brands

With its export-only safety match brands – Pala Pala, Zebra, Kudu and Lion Blue – the Export Division successfully implements marketing strategies specific to each region and country. Growth is being realised by a pull-through of Lion Match Products (Pty) Ltd and NSP Unsgaard (Pty) Ltd products. Further growth opportunities exist as the company’s product range expands and packaging takes exports markets into account.
