BEWARE OF IMITATION LION SAFETY MATCHES
The sale of counterfeit goods in South Africa can give rise to both criminal and civil liability for parties that import and/or sell such goods in the trade. By accepting counterfeit goods to sell in stores, retailers run the risk of possible arrest and prosecution by the State. The owner of the intellectual property rights may also institute civil charges against retailers and importers who deal in counterfeit goods. Our Lion Safety Matches label and the “Ribbon Device” are all registered trademarks.

1.	Counterfeit boxes are often sealed with a noticeably thick masking tape instead of glue.

2.	On the top right-hand side of the box it should read 100188.

Counterfeit boxes are often smaller in size. The code on top of the box may vary from the genuine box.

Counterfeit shrinks are often smaller in size and wrapped in cellophane instead of the standard plastic.

Counterfeit overwraps often have noticeably thicker barcode lines, larger type and different yellow-coloured shading.		COUNTERFEIT	GENUINE	COUNTERFEIT	GENUINE

1.	Counterfeit ignition strips are smoother, longer, wider and off-centre.

2.	The code is often missing from below the glue flap.

3.	The back of the box that is meant to highlight polish states, "Superior Shoe Polish" instead of the correct, "Lion Quality Shoe Polish".

4.	A less detailed lion’s mane and missing detail on the "Ribbon Device" indicate that a box is counterfeit. Colour shading on imitation boxes and the quality of the boxes are not as consistent as genuine products. A counterfeit box is also longer than a genuine box when opened out flat.

Our "Ribbon Device" has often been applied to items that are not Lion Match Products. This "Ribbon Device" is a registered trademark and any other product bearing this device will be infringing on a trademark that is property of Lion, and immediate action will be taken.

The overlap on the box sleeve is always glued half way on genuine Lion Safety Matches; the counterfeit is glued three quarters of the way or is glued out of position.
